Fadilah is from our HR department and she joined us early last year. She believes that HR is an important role that in a company’s growth.  

We understand that, regardless of industry, you may believe all HR departments are the same. When you see this job title, the first word that comes to mind is “recruiting”. Despite the fact that recruiting and hiring procedures are HR’s primary functions, there are numerous other things that are important for the department.

What are the roles of HR?

Recruitment, planning and development, and performance management are just some of the few duties that HR do in an organisation. In today’s blog, we’ll discuss the key roles that our HR department played.

The key roles of our HR department are in the following list:

1. Hiring suitable candidates 

Recruiting may be the common job scope for all HR but it is also a critical function that HR has to do for the company to grow. Employees are one of our most valuable resources because they play a very important role in the company’s success. The initial responsibility of HR department when it comes to recruitment is to comprehend the various positions and specific job requirements that must be met in order to find and pick the best possible candidates. Just like a team, Sin Chew is made up of many different individuals working together towards a common goal.

2. HR Planning, Training & Development

The HR department will need to get involved with some projects that contribute to the workforce’s development. Projects include strengthening the team bonding inside the workforce, upskilling employees’ skills that correspond with company goals and changing the content of employees’ job scope when necessary. All these planning and development activities will need to align with employees’ personal growth plans and the organisation’s fundamental strengths. Some examples include formal training, on-the-job learning, job rotation to provide workers with broader work experience, and challenging tasks (e.g. problem-solving & communication skills) that help solve organizational issues while simultaneously contributing to individual learning.

3. Performance Appraisals

Most companies will require to conduct employee performance analysis to exchange insights and provide feedback for further improvement. This is usually done after the probation period, quarterly or yearly basis. These appraisals help employees and managers communicate more effectively, boost employee attention, create professional and personal goals, improve performance, and identify training gaps. At Sin Chew, we regularly give formal and informal feedback to the employees.
